AR Emoji, similar to Apple's Animoji system on the iPhone X, a new feature that lets the user make emojis based on themselves, has been added. Third party app support will be provided for this feature.

The S9 and S9+ will ship with Android 8.0 "Oreo" with Samsung's Samsung Experience skin on top of it. It will feature a tighter integration with Bixby, such as using the camera for live language translation. In addition, the phone can be used horizontally, even on the home screen.
